brief: to demonstrate that SunWater is not only meeting the present needs of the community through infrastructure management but also future needs through infrastructure development and to demonstrate that SunWater has been decisive, determined and flexible to turn challenges into opportunities.
solution: the title ‘Delivering today. Securing tomorrow’ sums up this message while the visual concept developed complements SunWater’s new brand standards and was designed to help launch the new look. The design utilises SunWater’s ‘wave’ graphic device, supporting colour palette and tab graphic from the new brand materials. On the cover, the report title is highlighted in striking uppercase typography and to add an extra dimension, striking water droplets were incorporated and clear varnished to give them a ‘liquid’ feel.
brief: to convey the key message that Stanwell has the necessary strategies in place to adapt, improve and move forward in every facet of the business with confidence, while assuring their audience that Queensland’s electricity supply is in safe hands – now and in the future.
solution: the concept for the Stanwell 2009/10 Annual Report takes a confident but understated tone, presenting the title in strong uppercase typography. The word ‘right’ is highlighted in vibrant green, reflecting Stanwell’s core objectives and corporate look with dramatic black and white images giving the overall design added strength and appeal. ‘Directional’ imagery is used throughout and the layout has a structured, editorial feel with pull quotes in large, bold type drawing the reader’s eye. Case studies featuring the report title as an introduction to the heading further emphasised this year’s theme.
brief: to develop a creative concept to support the theme – 'The Way Ahead' that communicates the Corporation’s future path to continued growth and success, and focus on infrastructure projects, such as a new bridge and wharves.
solution: In this concept, ‘The Way Ahead’ is visually represented on the cover by a varnished pattern of arrows. Aerial imagery is featured to show the scope of activity at the port and to emphasise the infrastructure and the reclamation area. The arrow device is incorporated throughout the design and on the home page design as a continual reference to ‘the way ahead’, highlighting pull-out boxes, web references and picture captions while adding interest to graphs and diagrams. Lumino demonstrates here, the ability to deliver an annual report in a printed format and as a fully functional online publication.

brief: to develop the concept for the Office of the Information Commissioner Annual Report to reflect the title ‘Open Governance’.
solution: the interior of the report utilised a layout within a visual dossier folder motif as a structural device for the complex information within, and also to suggest the confidential nature of the day-to-day information protection concerns the organisation faces. An aspirational image of wide open spaces was chosen for the cover to reflect the title and theme. Lumino demonstrates here, the ability to deliver an annual report that is creative yet well presented when complex information is needed.
brief: the theme for this year’s SunWater Annual Report is ‘making water work every day’. This communicates SunWater’s round the clock operations and services (including the 24 hour customer service line and water ordering) and reflects SunWater’s efforts during the Queensland floods. SunWater is always there for its customers whenever and wherever they are needed.
the photography needed to reinforce this theme by showing SunWater people busily working around the clock, all day every day and in different weather conditions.
solution: the design concept features a strong graphic on the cover that is derived from the 2010-2011 month by month calendar. To reinforce the calendar graphic and the theme of the report, the opening spread introduces the theme with the statement ‘Every day of the month, every month of the year, SunWater is making water work for you.’ The calendar graphic is embossed, making a feature of the graphic inside the front cover.
the squares from the calendar graphic continue through the pages of the report within graphs, image treatments and to highlight page numbers. the abstract water image is used as a background to differentiate a Key Performance Measures spread and to provide a visual link to the front cover.
brief: to develop a concept to reflect 3 key messages and the variety of communication strategies involved in articulating each of them:
strength, capability and responsiveness to natural disaster. Communicating Ergon Energy’s truly commendable response to the most difficult summer season ever.
preparedness for a new regulatory period and challenges. Communicating Ergon Energy’s preparedness for the new 5 year regulatory period and the emphasis on future focused thinking that this entails.
addressing marketplace sensitivity. Communicating the strategies Ergon Energy will adopt for addressing increasing customer sensitivity to electricity tariff prices.
solution: the title hinges around three carefully chosen words that embody the three communication messages of the Annual report, responsive, resourceful and ready. the alliteration of three words beginning with ‘re’ has a definite and confident approach, without appearing too forward or overly ambitious.
the design concept features a strong multi-facetted graphic device on the cover, running across a striking full bleed black and white image, depicting an Ergon Energy employee engaged in line maintenance. the graphic device represents transition, energy and strength, and is a visual representation of the dynamic theme of this year’s report, and Ergon Energy’s readiness to meet current and future challenges.
brief: following ENERGEX’s efforts during the Queensland floods in January, the theme of the Annual Report this year is ‘Serving our Community’. a simple, clean design was required and the ‘Positive Energy’ report Lumino designed for ENERGEX in 2006 was mentioned as a good example of this. the report needed to feature a mix of existing and new photography.the title of the CEO’s message was ‘Delivering on our commitments’ and the concepts needed to take this into account.
solution: the concept, titled ‘serving your community’ which communicates ENERGEX’s role within the community in South East Queensland. bold and colourful imagery with contrasting bands of solid green make for a striking design while reinforcing the ENERGEX brand and showcasing community infrastructure themed photography.square edges on images and solid areas of green and black are used for tables, graphs and feature text.
the financial report and the annual report are designed to slide into a slipcase, featuring a simple and bold band of green housing the report title on the front, and a striking photograph of the Brisbane community as seen from the air on the back.
