I talked earlier this year about the increasing proliferation of branded iPhone apps, and how companies were seeking to extend their brand experiences through this now ubiquitous medium. But what is the difference between creating something ‘app-ealing’ that enhances brand equity and something ‘app-alling’ that just comes off as bandwagon-esque? How do we decide if an iPhone app is relevant to our customer’s brand experience.

Sign of the times - Allianz one of the first companies to move their annual report to an iPad app

The Allianz Group Annual Report is now available also as an interactive iPad application. Allianz is not only offering its Annual Report as a simple download as well as an online version (HTML), but it is one of the first companies to offer an interactive document tailored for use with the iPad. Functionalities include specifically accessing expanded information and quickly navigating through the Annual Report simply with the touch of a finger. This small application program for the iPad to view an annual report is available in the Apple App Store for anyone to download free of charge.

I’ve always been kind of a geek – but like many others lately I’ve learnt to embrace it. I shouted down the inner voice cautioning me over what I call OVB (Overtly Geeky Behaviour) last Friday when I joined millions of other fanbois around the western world who clamored for the new iPad.
